Welcome to Discover Charleston!
The rich life of the Lowcountry comes from the natural beauty of seashore and saltwater, sweetgrass, pluff mud, dunes, riverfront estuaries and wildlife. But it doesn’t stop there. Charleston’s rich architectural history is apparent in the peninsula’s shops and restaurants, residential neighborhoods and parks, as well as the plantations, forts and small towns that surround us.
There’s always something going on in Charleston. Festivals are celebrated year ‘round, from the Oyster Festival in January to the Holiday Parade of Boats in December and every month in between. Arts and culture are featured in monthly art walks and 2nd Sunday on King Street; galleries and local theaters have openings almost every day and no other city can rival our internationally renowned Spoleto Festival USA of the performing arts.
Food is at the center of Charleston life. Many of our restaurants are owned by skilled, imaginative chefs and restaurateurs that utilize ingredients found within a few miles and prepare them in the Lowcountry tradition. The bounty of the ocean, fertile farmlands, cultivated crops — like rice, tea and mushrooms — and strong local economy keep us winning national culinary awards and recognition.
Great weather, so many options for culture and entertainment, food, beauty and quality of life… and you.
